Welcome to Veg Bowl!
Veg Bowl is all about our love for life and simple good food. The website revolves around homecooked meals, mostly vegetarian, many vegan and eggless too, and associated musing that inspires me to cook. It's about cooking everyday humble meals to serve my family to making celebratory festive spread to bring traditions alive, of those occasional indulgences, of finding inspiration in the kitchen, of our love for sweets and spices, of satisfying baking desires, of musings and budding passion for photography. Welcome to Veg Bowl. For the love of food and discovering the joy of cooking, this blog was created with an intention to share what we eat everyday. To tell all, that being or going vegetarian is so much fun and easy!
A little about me...
Hi there! I am Mallika, the cook, photographer and writer behind Veg Bowl. I am currently based in Chicago, US and live here with my husband and 10 year old daughter. Food has been an integral part of my life. I grew up in a family surrounded by people who were/are fabulous cooks, and watching them cook and serve seasonal, fresh home cooked traditional meals to the family was a regular scene at home. Growing up, we were fortunate to travel places owing to dad's job and having lived in quite a few cities across India, we picked our love for other local cuisines, thus influencing our food traditions along the way. These are memories I strongly cling to and I would love to pass on this tradition and memories to my daughter. Apart from just recipes, there's are wonderful memories I share, all associated with food. My space is fueled by my love for food, travel, my culture, my childhood, things surrounding me, the influences we've had on our lifestyle and food. In my posts you may find stories, and these stories paint a pretty good picture of my life. Take some time, read through and you'll get to know me better.
The recipes I feature here are mostly vegetarian with the exception of eggs I use in desserts. Since 2018, we gave up eating eggs, and have been leaning towards a more plant based diet, hence eliminating the use of eggs in our cooking. Many good recipes can be adapted to be vegan and/or gluten free and/or dairy free. I love to cook with local, seasonal, whole, unprocessed ingredients. It may be a little time consuming, but is well worth the effort for it's fresh, clean flavors. I hope you will find something that will interest you and inspire you to cook and share this love.
